“Scrolling for hours”

Nowadays a lot of us find ourselves scrolling down our TL’s during times we damn well know we could be something much more productive. So, why is it scrolling has become our favorite past time?

What do you get when you add a shit load of unfinished work + overloaded laundry pile + (- motivation) + overdue credit card payments + about 300 other stressors that easily could be resolved if you just focused = you scrolling for hours.

Why?

We've somehow found a way to shove our stressors a little bit out of focus on to something a little bit more "intriguing." In other words, it has just became our new found coping mechanism. I know more often than none we all have a couple phrases going through our head whilst scrolling down our TL for an unusual amount of time, lets see if you recognize any:

  • "Damn, I really do got a lot of shit to do" *while continuing to scroll*

  • "Imma set an alarm for about 15 minutes then imma get up and start"

*Alarm goes off, you press "stop" - continue scrolling*

  • "I can do this!" (whatever work there is to be done) *while still scrolling)

  • "Damn, that's the time already!!!"

Now some can argue and say that people are just nosey af and love comparing/contrasting their lives or their social media feed in this case, which is absolutly true but there is a vast majority of us who really don't give af about what y'all got going on... we're just stressed, so please don't flatter yourself honey.

We are so blindsided by the distraction that thoughts of tasks to be done dissapate as time goes by and some of us just feel guilty everytime our brains hit us with the "Get the hell up, you've got work to do," and we still do nothing. We find ourselves so distracted, constantly picking up the phone and slamming it back down to regain focus only to end up picking it back up 2 minutes later like that wasn't just the problem.

So, now that you've read through the list of symptoms like you Googled "Do I have a scrolling disease?" or something like that - Come on, you know how Google be. You must first be able to recognize that this is something you do everytime (or most of the time) you feel the pressure of stress - you can't expect a crack head to get help if they see nothing wrong with what they are doing, right? RIGHT. And if you are one of those people who after reading through this have come to the conclusion that you see no problem in what you do, well congratulations - You're just nosey af but feel free to keep reading ;)

Treatments:

  • Turn your phone off - I can see some of y’all faces right now like “I’m not gonna do that shit.” It’s not that hard to do, our minds are just so fixated on needing to keep it on like you’re going have 123 messages, 75 missed calls and screaming fan mail when you turn it back on. If that’s the case, just turn it off for at least 30 minutes or until you’ve made progress your satisfied with.

  • Call your parents/friends - Tell them how you’re feeling, if they truly love you they’ll have you jumping out of your bed quicker than I don’t know what. Or simply have them stay on the phone with you if it’s a task that doesn’t require solitude.

  • Talk to yourself - Yeah I said it, talk that good shit. “If you want it, go get it!” Uplift yourself, imagine how good you’ll feel when it’s done.

  • Delete the app - Redownload it when you’re done.

  • Get up and drink a glass of water - I don’t know the science behind it quite that well but it sure does get you hyped up.

Those are just a few that have significantly worked for me and if you know of any better treatment options, please feel free to let your other comrades in on the secret - we sure would love to know.
