Are you goal planning?

Why having goals and a plan behind those goals are so important.

I know you’re probably thinking that’s so cliché and obvious, of course everybody has goals - well yeah sure, everybody has goals BUT who has a step by step plan on how their going to obtain it. Frankly, not too many people do and it’s so easy to fall flat on your ass when you don’t have a plan. Saying, “I want to be a Doctor” is all great, but are your grades correlating with the Med School you want to attend? Your MCAT are coming up, have you even been studying? Have you made those valuable connections for when University is over and you need an internship or better yet a JOB? You cannot have a goal with nothing behind it, otherwise it is just words. It is key that when you’re writing a goal, write how you intend to achieve it.

One morning (pre-COVID), on my way to work I was listening to an audio book by Darren Hardy entitled ‘Making the Shift’, he said “Goal achieving is an art form.” because everybody can make a goal but not everybody can achieve their goal. Then, it hit me - How many times have y’all made a goal and within a week y’all back doing the same shit and don’t lie to me, everybody has done it at least once. AND YES I’M TALKING TO ALL YOU NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONERS TOO. It’s honestly funny that as humans, when we do put a plan together and let’s say we miss one step because we got lazy or something came up - the plan is fucked now, we’ve got discouraged. Our minds now are split between “Keep pushing to reach that goal” and “Chill, stay in your comfort zone” and sad to say, most of the time we pick what me feel most comfortable doing.

I can’t express how much having daily, weekly & monthly goals (with a dash of discipline) will change your life. The big goals you want to achieve in the next year or even 10 years from now starts with the little things you do now. I don’t know about y’all but getting to check off goals is such a rewarding feeling, knowing that you’re one step closer is exciting to know. You should be able to look back at how far you’ve come to make this happen and be overjoyed at all that you’ve accomplished.

The metaphysicalchic wishes you nothing but success.
