The mind is a vast and wonderful place until, it isn’t.
Have you ever let your thoughts consume you?
Whenever I get bombarded with negative thoughts, my mind feels like I’m running through an unorganized library (it varies from person to person, I just happen to love books) and honestly anything unorganized irritates me to the core. Or, have you ever had a thought so sinister, so evil that you wondered why, or even how you ended up thinking about it in the first place. It may not have even been intentional but you thought it. Now, you’re praying to God/Universe that you didn’t mean it - that it was just a thought.
I’ve gone from happily smiling and cracking jokes to a dead serious straight face in under 30 seconds, wondering deep and hard over things that I have absolutely no control over in that specific moment. Things that if I sat back and analyzed from a logical standpoint, wouldn’t seem nearly as bad at all. Feelings of inadequacy, regret and many other low vibrations, seem to be able to possess the power to mock, scare and lure us into thinking these thoughts are reality but they aren’t.
So, what can I do when I feel consumed by my thoughts?
For starters, you should definitely read “Negative thoughts won’t STFU?” it goes a little more in depth on taking back control of your mind. Pulling yourself out of moments like these are NOT and I repeat are NOT as easy as it seems (as you may know) and that’s the reality of it but, with practice it becomes less frequent of a pattern to fall into. You must first notice and be able to detect when you feel your mind being lead down a negative path, meaning; you must be able to “check in” with yourself, get to know the in’s and out’s of you. What makes you happy? What triggers you? With that being said, it doesn’t take days or a month to master - this is a lifelong practice, tuning in with yourself so that you don’t lose yourself.
My number 1 go to is mediation. Even if I have thoughts bouncing around, I love being in a setting where I can force myself (with ease of course) to refocus my attention on my breath. Every time a negative thought pops in, I shun it away by refocusing as many times as I need too. If mediation is not your fav on the list, they I always opt in doing something that brings you simple happiness. It could be a favorite song, dancing, cooking, or even as simple as going for a drive to get your favorite food. Your mind won’t shift on its own love, it takes a great deal of strength to get it where it needs to be. We all have negative thoughts, never give it the power to consume you.
