You & Happiness

Happiness is a choice you make. Your overall happiness is determined by you, no one else but you. Yes, sometimes external forces and people may try to keep you down and in life, shit happens but at the end of the day it’s all a mindset. A mindset in which you find gratitude in ANY and EVERYTHING. Take the following hypothetical for example:

[Mindset one]

  1. You roll out of bed mad because your alarm keeps doing it’s job of waking you up and you hurriedly get ready for work.

  2. On the way to work you almost get into a car accident because some idiot ran a red light (and I’m not talking amber-red, I’m talking about the light BEEN red) but whew you survived. You brush it off, still cussing the driver out in your head all the way till you get to work.

  3. You arrive at work 5 minutes late (like great). When you walk through the door, your boss wants to have a “quick chat” with you.

  4. Boss: “I am going to have to let you go, can you please clean out your desk.”

  5. Me: “ Fuck you, I’ve worked my ass off for this corporation and you Mr. Fickleberry, you remember all that dry cleaning you had me pick up cause your own wife can’t stand yo ass. That’s right, I’m spilling tea today since y’all wanna fire the best employee this company has ever seen. Y’all firing folks and Jessica thieving ass is still here, make it make sense. Man fuck y’all, I’m out - I didn’t need this job anyway unlike Travis broke ass over there still can’t get out his mama house but he in Miami every two weeks, y’all lame PEACE!” exits building.

  6. Now you’re in your car and you’re thinking “Oh shit, I don’t have job, I’m gonna be broke.” You begin to sob and go on and on about how this is the worst day ever and blah blah blah.

Do y’all see how much unnecessary stress we caused ourselves since the moment we woke up? I’m not saying we don’t have bad days but shit. We managed to make our morning such a negative one, even when we woke up pissed we didn’t even try to ground ourselves we just took that energy with us throughout the day. Let’s try this again, shall we:

    [Mindset two]

    1. The alarm wakes you and before you get irritated you affirm yourself “ I AM GOING TO HAVE A GREAT DAY!” While you’re getting ready, you’re listening to music and dancing - basically setting the mood for the rest of the day.

    2. Now, you’re in your car on the way to work. You’re listening to an uplifting podcast/music (whatever floats ya boat) and you almost get into that car accident. Continuing on your journey to work - you are so grateful, that accident could have went the complete opposite direction but it didn’t. You’re still cussing out the driver in your head but you’re also thanking whomever you praise too.

    3. You arrive at work 5 minutes late (like great). When you walk through the door, your boss wants to have a “quick chat” with you.

    4. Boss: “I am going to have to let you go, can you please clean out your desk.”

    5. Me: “ Okay, it was a pleasure working for this corporation. I will need you Mr. Fickleberry to reimburse me my $12,000 before the end of this week before I take it to corporate. Also, as stated in my contract you will need to pay me base pay until I find a new job as there was no verbal warning. I honestly didn’t like any of y’all, especially you Jessica but I appreciate all you’ve done for me. So I guess this is goodbye guys, bye BITCHES” * SARCASM SPEAKS VOLUME * ;)

    6. You’re in your car now and just like most your probably thinking about your financial situation. You take a deep breath, you remember your affirmation from this morning and you say it aloud “ I AM GOING TO HAVE A GREAT DAY!”

    7. Now you’re thinking, okay I have this amount in my savings to last me for x amount of months, I am so grateful for that. While I look for this next job, I can be working on my online business I’ve been neglecting, polish it up and maybe I can be my own boss. Oh, they fired me shit I got the rest of the day off, let me see what Janet got going on today.

Everything comes down to your perspective on things and training your mind to find the good in things without being blind to the bad. If you want to be happy don’t complicate things, JUST BE HAPPY. And, yes I’m fully aware it’s much easier said than done but if you start by finding joy in the little things that happen throughout the day and take responsibility of you, it’ll start to get a lot easier day by day.

PRO TIP - Don’t go around blaming everyone because you’re not happy - your happiness starts with you so be aware of what you put onto others.
